Police Chief Anthony Campo Exposed: Underground Gun Sales & Dark Secrets (Sheffield Lake, Ohio)

Anthony Campo, the Sheffield Lake Police Chief finds himself in the hot seat once again.  This article illustrates the Chiefs involvement in more than 30 questionable underground online gun sales.  The sales spanned across two online forums and go as far back as 2009.  In many cases, the guns that were sold were to individuals of unknown backgrounds and who used fake online identities.  Many of the guns that were sold were of standard Detective makes and models which raises questions as to how they were obtained (Anthony Campo was a detective prior to being the Chief).

Anthony Campo used the username of “CardShooter” on 1911Forum.com and “Tony Campo” on ColtForum.com, his accounts were and still are registered to his email addresses of paverroad@yahoo.com & tonycards590@gmail.com.  Through these online forums the Chief sold & traded no less than 30 guns, with an untold number of boxes of ammunition & accessories.  Mr. Campo circumvented public sales and used private messaging to conduct the bulk of these unmonitored and uncontrolled sales.

Some of the gun sales occurred across state lines and many were done with face to face interaction.  Almost all of the individuals that Anthony Campo sold to used online alias’s and nicknames to hide who they were.  Some of the names he did business with are as follows; One Eye Joe, RWPBR, .455Eley, Truman, Wajim, JmanRogers, JJSobba, OldeDawg, DirtyHarry, RockyRider, Jacii, and so on.  This leaves open a huge identity question.  Who did he sell the guns to?  Did he ship all of his online sales to a registered FFL dealer who then shipped the guns to the purchaser?  Does he have records of these sales & shipments?

SCUMBAGGED VIDEO COMING SOON

Readers Note:  It appears that at least one sale was with an out of State purchaser who traveled into Ohio to purchase the gun from Mr. Campo in person, if proven to be true, this is a violation of Federal Law.

According to Federal Law an unlicensed individual is prohibited from transferring a firearm to an individual who does not reside in the State where the transferee resides. In order for a person to lawfully transfer a firearm to an unlicensed person (not a gun dealer) who resides out of State, the firearm must be shipped to a Federal Firearms Licensee (FFL) within the recipients State of residence. Users who were corresponding with the Chief, Anthony Campo, via ColtForum appear to have been from all over the country.  In some cases he sold guns face to face with individuals (which is legal) but then he also sold guns face to face with individuals who would drive into the State to complete the purchase (which is against Federal Law).  He also shipped guns across state lines and it is unknown as to whether or not he used a FFL in each case to do so.

“I would prefer face to face in Ohio but am open to other options”

The Chief “open to other options” regarding gun sales.

More Than $30,000

Huge questions also loom over where and how Mr. Campo obtained some of the guns that he sold.  Some of which were Detective Series and police issued guns, many which were never even used.

“the Chief sold & or traded more than $30,000 worth of weaponry.”

Was he selling police issued weaponry?  Were there extra guns and ammunition in lockup for backup purposes that just “disappeared”, ie; stolen?  Were the guns purchased at discount using tax-payer money and not allowed to be resold?  Through just two different forums the Chief sold & or traded more than $30,000 worth of weaponry.  More than half of which appears to be Detective related and or police issued.

HAWK Says:  What I want to know is if any of these guns that he sold were confiscated during cases and removed from the evidence room?  Hmmm….

Domestic Violence Accusations

In two user submissions there are documents of Domestic Violence perpetuated by Anthony Campo against his first wife as well as additional issues.  There are no public records of these events.  Those reports are as follow.

“He used to beat her, he would get drunk and it started with verbally assaulting her and then it eventually lead to physical assaults.  He had to beg her to not press charges because he would lose his job.  He did this on numerous occasions, everyone that is from Sheffield Lake knows this, it’s just common knowledge.”

“The Chief isn’t a good person, he’s a womanizer, he’s also more than that, when he was a Detective he tried to get my brother to wear a wire in school and he questioned kids without parental consent.  He’s also been known to try intimidation tactics against kids because he tried with my brother.

The Not So Savvy Chief

In a previous article where he was caught on recording (see here), Anthony Campo, the Chief of Police attempted to leave comments on Scumbagged.com under the username of “Jack”.  In those comments he exposed personal and private information related to a specific individual that was involved in a police encounter where a weapon was drawn, he also went on to state the following.  “Now (name ommitted) makes up some pee pee complaint against some cops who did nothing but their jobs and other morons listen to him. All you cop haters are the first to call 911 when some kid steals your two dollar sunglasses out of your junk car.”

User Submitted Comment:  3 officers took the test because the Mayor (Dennis Bring) threatened their jobs if they didn’t do what “he wanted”, whether it be legal or otherwise.  The Mayor elected Anthony Campo as the Chief over the two that did pass when Campo didn’t even pass the test.

User Submitted Comment:  I have a target on my back already, but this police department does a lot of unethical things.  This is the kind of dumb stuff they do when you are on the shit list.  They will come to your home at 9:30pm, now mind you the house is on the corner and nobody can see the backyard.  They said we had too many lights on.  Just so they could get on the property to see who was there, what they were drinking, etc.

User Submitted Comment:  The former Chief of Sheffield Lake told me that if they don’t do exactly what Mayor Dennis Bring wants, then he threatens them with their job and that’s why he (the previous Chief) left.

The Bottom Line:  For a Detective to sell guns online to unknown individuals at all is risky business.  There is no telling if they are felons or even terrorists.  Mr. Campo dealt with a lot of police issued detective material as well, which is a pretty good indicator that these were police issued guns.  The question is were there any that turned up missing?  Also, it would be interesting to take a look into the evidence repository and see if there are any missing guns there as well.

SCUMBAGGED Tip:  If you’re a normal citizen and you sell guns online you run a huge risk of selling to a felon or aiding a terrorist.  Especially if they don’t have real names.  Furthermore, if you were to slip up one time, you might just wind up in jail.  Best case scenario is to sell your guns on the up and up, after all, you never know who might stumble across your listings tomorrow.

  1. I had to get a court order to get my gun back from him in 2014. It was involved with my husband’s suicide. When I walked in the station he came up to the window and said “Don’t even ask, you’re not getting the gun back.” I replied, “It’s my gun- it’s registered to me.” Campo’s response was “There’s no such thing as gun registration in the state of Ohio.” I argued to no avail. He said, “You want it back get a court order.” My lawyer had to go to to the department to collect the gun. Interesting enough it was NOT in the evidence room, it was in Campo’s desk. Hmm….

  2. The neighborhood really need to speak up and get Campo and fradulant(jim Simone away!) They are so scandalous and sneaky! It funny how all of a sudden after a few years later of a guy suing the city of Cleveland after being beat by officers make his way to work in Sheffield lake after retirement. I really do believe he came to take the money back from this terrible guy. Those people they called didnt have to shoot at his house. This was an act of bulliness. Not good faith!

  3. The wheel bearing on my car broke while turning onto Lake road. Of course this is an issue that holds up traffic however I had just had the car in with a mechanic who said there was no issue with it and it was safe to drive. I didn’t expect for this to happen nor was it an intentional problem that I tried to cause. I am 9 months pregnant and when Mr. Campo pulled up to the scene he was completely irrational with his response to the problem. I told him I had called a tow company and he told me if they were not at the scene within five minutes that he would be calling his own company. I felt that he was disrespectful and belittling with his response so I politely responded with “Sir I’m sorry if you’re having a bad day but not isn’t going as planned either” he looked at me made some snide remark and said “Now i am calling my own company” I understand that police have a job to clear the streets of issues like this however being rude during a stressful situation does not make anything better. Police are taught to make the situation less tense and he did nothing but stress me out more. This is not a crime that he committed however why do we have someone in charge of our city that clearly has no respect for the residents who aren’t even committing a crime? Don’t the taxes i pay to go his salary? Yet there is no one in the city I am able to make a formal complaint with. I grew up in Cleveland and moved her as an adult my incident with this officer has made me decide that when the lease to my apartment is up I’m moving to a city where I’m treated with respect if I am not committing a crime. I have lived here for more than 15 years and my daughter has attended school here her entire life however I will never recommend someone live in this city again let alone even drive through it. If the mayor wants to know why it can’t keep business and revenue in this city its because of problems like this. The second officer that showed up and waited with us after the Chief left was very polite and calmed me down tremendously. Thank God for him. I should also say that my tow truck showed up at the same time as his so his attitude toward the situation was that of just having power. And if he wants to think that I have ever called the Sheffield Lake police for any reason including someone stealing my $2 sunglasses he’s sadly wrong. Growing up in Cleveland reminds me that this city has very little crime and I do not ever need the police. It is just sad that this Is the idea I have of them now. And we wonder why people are shooting officers in this country. Its people like this man who makes a bad name for police.
